A formation of eighteen Air Force airlifters, featuring ten C-130s and eight C-17s from various Air Force bases, demonstrated the ability of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division to gain operational access to denied terrain through a massive joint forcible entry exercise, or JFEX, airdrop on 22-23 June at Pope Army Air Field and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In the two days of massive formation airdrops, the aircrews dropped the Army’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team and the Global Response Team, the same outfit that was dropped into Haiti after the recent earthquake. The first night, aircrews dropped more than 1,100 paratroopers.
