Air Force crews offload a power repair truck from a C-5B Galaxy at Stewart ANGB in Newburgh, New York, on 1 November 2012. The US Defense Department initiated the airlift to aid recovery efforts after Hurricane Sandy came ashore in New Jersey on 29 October. As of 2 November, a dozen C-5 and C-17 transport crews have arrived at Stewart to delivering vehicles, equipment, and personnel requested by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Nearly 7,400 National Guardsmen and Airmen, the Navy, and several federal agencies are involved in the recovery effort. Southern California Edison sent the trucks and equipment out of March ARB, California. The C-5 is assigned to Travis AFB, California.
