The US State Department announced on 24 September 2010 that US military aircrews had delivered more than ten million pounds of aid in support of Pakistan flood relief efforts. US military aid operations began 31 July with a C-130H Hercules crew from the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, delivering nearly 8,000 prepackaged rations. At the time of the announcement, there were twenty-six US military helicopters supporting relief efforts in Pakistan with more offshore aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA-5). Approximately five C-130 and C-17 aircraft daily deliver aid throughout Pakistan. US military aircrews, working in close partnership with the Pakistan military, have rescued more than 17,000 people in addition to delivering the relief supplies.
