Raptors Out Of The Rain

Approximately forty F-22 and T-38 aircraft and 100 personnel from the active duty 1st Fighter Wing and the Air National Guard 192nd FW at Langley AFB, Virginia, evacuated to Grissom ARB, Indiana, on 1 October 2015 as a precaution to avoid heavy precipitation, high winds, storm surges, and flooding as a result of Hurricane Joaquin in the Atlantic. The same day, an aircrew with the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flew its third mission into the eye of the storm. Known as the Hurricane Hunters, the squadron, an Air Force Reserve Command based at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, flew WC-130J Weatherbird missions continually over the next several days while Joaquin remained a threat.
