After a long journey via truck from RAAF Amberley, near Brisbane, Queensland, a decommissioned Royal Australian Air Force F-111C (serial number A8-142) arrived on 14 June 2012 at its new home at RAAF Wagga, New South Wales, where it will go on static display. The aircraft was supposed to be delivered in March, but heavy rains and bad road conditions delayed the transfer. As part of the disposal strategy for the now-retired F-111 fleet, the Australian Department of Defence retained a number of aircraft for preservation and static display at various locations within Australia. RAAF Wagga is the home to a number of RAAF recruit and training schools.
