The Royal Canadian Air Force reached 5,000 flight hours in the CC-130J Super Hercules on 3 February 2012. The unit, 436 Squadron, received its first aircraft at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario, in June 2010. Six months later, squadron crews deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Athena. In March 2011, six of the seven CC-130Js then in the Canadian fleet were being flown in support of operations in Libya. At Trenton, the fleet has been flown in several operations and joint exercises, including assisting in the evacuation of Canadians from forest fires in the summer of 2011 and supporting the Canadian Army with paratrooper training. The seventeenth and last CC-130J currently on order is scheduled for delivery in May 2012.
