An ex-Honduras Air Force L-188 Electra airliner that was last airborne thirteen years ago and had been kept in open storage since was refurbished and flown in January. Air Spray Ltd., a Canadian airborne firefighting operation, purchased the aircraft at auction and spent three months getting it airworthy. This L-188 (Lockheed number 1028) was originally delivered to American Airlines in 1959. An Air Spray crew flew it out of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on 15 December 2011. After several stops, including an extended stay in Casper, Wyoming, for repairs, the aircraft arrived at Red Deer, Alberta, on 12 January. Air Spray, the world’s largest Electra operator, has not decided whether to convert this Electra to an air tanker or use it for spares.
