Twenty C-5 models, each seven feet long with a wingspan of six feet, are being decorated by local artists for display in various locations around the city of Chicopee, Massachusetts, in late August 2011. The models are being auctioned off to raise money for a new senior center in Chicopee. Sponsors will keep the aircraft models for six months and then designate a permanent location for display. City officials used the C-5 as a canvas because of the long history Chicopee has with nearby Westover ARB, home to Air Force Reserve Command’s 439th Airlift Wing.
