The US Air Force announced on 19 July 2011 that it had issued a Record of Decision to base thirty-six F-35A Lightning II fighters at Nellis AFB, Nevada. The aircraft will be delivered between 2012 and 2020 for the Force Development Evaluation and Weapons School programs. The beddown of the F-35 at Nellis will result in an increase of 412 personnel. Construction of new facilities, as well as alteration and demolition of existing facilities, will be required at the base. Flight activities will occur at Nellis AFB and over the Nevada Test and Training Range.
