Princess Anne, the honorary station commander at RAF Lyneham, recently visited the Royal Air Force’s Hercules base to attend the Squadron Farewell parade. This event was held to commemorate the upcoming permanent relocation of the three Hercules squadrons from RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire to RAF Brize Norton near Oxford. At the start of the parade, the Central Band of the RAF played a march entitled The Mighty Hercules that was especially commissioned for the event. As the princess was inspecting personnel from XXIV, 30, and 47 Squadrons, a Hercules C. Mk.3 (C-130K) and C. Mk.5 (C-130J) were flown in formation over the ramp. The last Hercules is scheduled to depart RAF Lyneham for RAF Brize Norton on 1 July 2011.
