The number of Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System-equipped C-130s aiding in the suppression of California wildland fires was increased to four on 14 August 2015. Two Air Force Reserve Command MAFFS equipped C-130 Hercules from the 731st Airlift Squadron at Peterson AFB, Colorado, were joined by MAFFS-equipped aircraft and crews from the 187th AS, the Wyoming Air National Guard at Cheyenne, and the 156th AS, the North Carolina Guard unit at Charlotte. The two MAFFS-equipped C-130Hs replaced two C-130J aircraft and crews from the 115th Airlift Squadron, the California ANG unit at Channel Islands ANGS, which returned home on 9 August. All the MAFFS aircraft and crews are based at McClellan Air Field, California, during operations.
