With Lockheed Martin test pilot Jon Beesley at the controls, AF-1 completed a 2.5-hour air refueling qualification mission on its eighth flight. The mission included flying quality checks in formation with a KC-135 tanker at 20,000 feet. Beesley performed boom tracking, simulated emergency separations, precision contact and disconnects. His F-35A took on 4,300 pounds of fuel from the tanker during the flight.
